CRAB QUAY HOUSE RESTAURANT - BAR - DELI, BRIXHAM
In May 2012, we were brought in to design new restaurant 'Crab Quay House' at the multi-million pound Fish Market in Brixham, Devon (opened by HRH Princess Anne in 2011). Right on the water’s edge and with views of Brixham town, the harbour and the English Channel itself; the restaurant needed a design which made the most of these spectacular views and represented the surrounding area.
We took inspiration from the local fish market in Brixham, commissioning a photographer to get some abstract shots of the crabbing fleet and the fish market itself; we also sourced historic shots of Brixham harbour to add interest to the space. We used slate split face mosaic tiles all along the kitchen pass to add much needed texture in to the very modern building, and had the bar bespoke made on site. The colour scheme of rich jade greens and wenge furniture is complimented with copper Tom Dixon pendants over the bar and fisherman’s pendant lights hung throughout the restaurant.
The result is a stunning dining environment which overlooks the bustling working harbour in Brixham.
